Recognized as an international leader in minimally invasive fetal surgery, Dr. Ramen Chmait was recruited to the University of Southern California (USC) in 2006 to serve as the Director of Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, a program within the Fetal-Maternal Center, a collaboration between the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. His research interest is in the field of fetal medicine and surgery, and he has published over 100 manuscripts on this topic. Dr. Chmait may be contacted at email@example.com.
Arlyn Llanes, MHA, BSN, RN
Arlyn Llanes is the Program Coordinator for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mount St. Mary’s College. She obtained her Master in Health Administration from the University of Southern California. Prior to joining Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, Arlyn worked in the critical care units at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UCLA in the administrative, clinical, and research arenas.
As Program Coordinator, Arlyn oversees all clinical operations for the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. She also manages all aspects of research from regulatory affairs to protocol implementation, data collection and management, and eventual manuscript publication.
Kristine Rallo, RN
Kristine Rallo is the Clinical Nurse Coordinator for the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. Kris graduated from the nursing program at CCBC-Baltimore County in Maryland. She worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital before moving to California in 2008. Kris continued her work as a Labor and Delivery nurse with Kaiser Permanente before joining the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Team in September 2013.
Kris coordinates patient services at the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. She provides care for all patients needing fetal interventions, from the point of initial consultation through follow-up. She works directly with Dr. Ramen Chmait regarding all aspects of patient care and collaborates with him in the operating room.
Valerie Jonville, RDMS, RDCS, BS
Valerie Jonville is the sonographer for the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. She graduated from the University of Nantes in France with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology before completing a medical diagnostic sonography degree in Los Angeles. She has trained as a high risk OB sonographer at UCLA before joining LAC+USC as a sonographer. She joined the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery team in 2017.
Valerie performs detailed ultrasounds for the team prior to consultation with Dr. Chmait. She provides ultrasound guidance during in-office procedures and during fetal interventions in the operating room. She also performs comprehensive pre/post-operative scans and fetal echocardiograms.
Patricia is the office manager for the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. She earned her certificate in medical billing and insurance coding in 2012 and has extensive customer service experience with a strong background in insurance coordination and patient advocacy. Patricia previously worked as a continuity of care coordinator, aiding to reestablish care to those that had lost coverage in the middle of extensive medical treatment.
Patricia is the contact person for all Fetal Surgery Program insurance inquiries. She manages all authorization requests for office consultations, hospital procedures, and fetal echocardiograms with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Patricia acts as the liaison between the Fetal Surgery Program, other USC departments, and referring institutions to coordinate patient services. She also oversees the front office operations and performs administrative duties as needed.
Anisa Alcaraz is the Medical Secretary for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. She received her LVN certificate from Pallidum Technical Academy in 2011. Prior to joining Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, Anisa worked as a front and back office assistant in OB/GYN.
Anisa coordinates patient authorizations, surgery scheduling, and specialist referrals, while performing administrative duties as needed.
Deanna Nguyen is the Data Management Specialist for the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Public Health from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery team, she was a clinical research coordinator at VA Long Beach.
She designs databases, manages data collection and entry, and provides support in regards to medical records and administrative duties. She is currently obtaining her Master in Public Health from the University of Southern California.
