Recognized as an international leader in minimally invasive fetal surgery, Dr. Ramen Chmait was recruited to the University of Southern California (USC) in 2006 to serve as the Director of Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, a program within the Fetal-Maternal Center, a collaboration between the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. His research interest is in the field of fetal medicine and surgery, and he has published over 100 manuscripts on this topic. Dr. Chmait may be contacted at email@example.com.
Arlyn Llanes, MHA, BSN, RN
Arlyn Llanes is the Program Coordinator for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mount St. Mary’s College. She obtained her Master in Health Administration from the University of Southern California. Prior to joining Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, Arlyn worked in the critical care units at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UCLA in the administrative, clinical, and research arenas.
As Program Coordinator, Arlyn oversees all clinical and administrative operations for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. She also manages all aspects of research including regulatory affairs, protocol implementation, data collection and management, and manuscript publication.
Kristine Rallo, RN
Kristine Rallo is the Clinical Nurse Coordinator for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. Kris graduated from the nursing program at CCBC-Baltimore County in Maryland. She worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital before moving to California in 2008. Kris continued her work as a Labor and Delivery nurse with Kaiser Permanente before joining the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Team in September 2013.
Kris coordinates patient services at Los Angeles Fetal Surgery . She provides care for all patients needing fetal interventions, from the point of initial consultation through follow-up. She works directly with Dr. Ramen Chmait regarding all aspects of patient care and collaborates with him in the operating room.
Stephanie Loew, BS, RDMS
Stephanie Loew is the Lead Fetal Sonographer for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Platt College, Riverside, Stephanie became a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in 2014. Stephanie has worked in various hospitals and trauma centers throughout Northern and Southern California as a travelling sonographer before joining the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Team in June 2020. As Fetal Sonographer, Stephanie works side-by-side with Dr. Chmait to provide ultrasound imaging guidance within the operating room. She also performs all pre-operative and post-operative ultrasound scans for each of our patients at Los Angeles Fetal Surgery.
Jennifer Dominguez is the Medical Secretary for Los Angeles Fetal Surgery. She received her LVN certificate from Pallidum Technical Academy in 2011. Prior to joining Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, Jennifer worked as a front and back office assistant in OB/GYN.
Jennifer coordinates patient authorizations, surgery scheduling, and specialist referrals, while performing administrative duties as needed.
Sara Veerman is the Data Manager & Research Assistant for the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery Program. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Fetal Surgery team, Sara was a student research assistant at UCLA.
Sara manages data collection and entry, designs databases, aids in patient follow-up, and provides support in regards to medical records and administrative duties.
