Before Your Visit

Once your Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist refers you to our clinic, our team will review your medical records. If you meet the criteria for a consultation or potential fetal intervention, one of our nurse coordinators will contact you to schedule your appointment. They’ll also provide guidance on what to expect and answer any questions you may have.

Important: If you have been prescribed aspirin, please discontinue use until after your evaluation (unless otherwise instructed by your physician).

On the Day of Your Visit

  1. Parking
    • On-site visitor parking is available.
    • Cost: $15 max (subject to change). Credit card or cash accepted.
    • Note: Parking is privately owned; we do not offer validation.
  2. What to bring to your appointment
    • Photo ID (driver’s license, school ID, debit card with photo, etc.)
    • Insurance card
    • Co-pay, if applicable
    • A support person (partner or family member) is strongly encouraged to accompany you, as this visit will involve important discussions and a large amount of information.
    • Please avoid bringing young children due to the length and complexity of the visit.
  3. New Patient Paperwork
    • You will be asked to complete a new patient packet at your appointment. If you’d like to complete it in advance, email us at jennifer.dominguez@med.usc.edu to request an electronic version.
  4. What to Expect at Your Appointment
    • A comprehensive ultrasound will be performed.
    • A detailed consultation with Dr. Chmait will follow to discuss your diagnosis, treatment options, and next steps.
    • Plan for your visit to take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
    • Additional testing (such as fetal MRI, echocardiogram, or consultations with specialists at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles) may be recommended based on your ultrasound findings.
  5. If Surgery is Recommended
    • You will be asked to report to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center for:
      • Admitting & registration
      • Blood draw (bring photo ID and insurance card)
    • Surgery is typically scheduled for the following day.
      • You will receive a packet with pre-operative instructions (available in Spanish) and a map of the facility.
    • Arrival time:
      • You’ll need to arrive at the hospital approximately 2 hours before your scheduled procedure.
      • Your nurse coordinator will provide all timing and logistics during your clinic visit.
    • After surgery:
      • You may be discharged the same day (outpatient), or
      • You may stay overnight for observation (inpatient).
        We will advise you based on your specific situation.
  6. Insurance & Billing Information
    • We accept most insurance plans.
    • If we are out-of-network, a financial agreement may be required. This process can take time, but we will keep you updated.
    • If we cannot secure authorization, cash pricing is available. Please contact us directly for details.
    • California residents that qualify may contact their local case worker for assistance in obtaining emergency Medi-Cal.
  7. Payment Information
    • Any out-of-pocket costs for office visits are collected prior to your appointment.
    • Surgical professional fees will be billed by USC Care Medical Group after your procedure.
    • Facility fees (for surgery) are handled by Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center:
    • You may be contacted the day before surgery with cost information.
    • Payment for facility fees is collected on the day of surgery.
