Children’s Hospital Los Angeles – Fetal Maternal Center
Over the past few years, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) have worked collaboratively to form the Fetal Maternal Center (FMC). Focusing on high-risk pregnancies, the center offers state-of-the-art, evidence-based diagnostic and treatment services, to address a wide range of complex maternal and fetal medical, genetic, metabolic and developmental abnormalities. The center provides a full spectrum of integrated and multidisciplinary care starting during pregnancy and continuing through birth, neonatal, and long-term follow-up periods for mother and child.
As part of the FMC mission, Dr. Ramen Chmait, Medical Director of Los Angeles Fetal Surgery, performs operative fetoscopy and other innovative fetal surgeries for a wide variety of fetal abnormalities that may be treated while the fetus remains in the womb.
University of Southern California – Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Keck School of Medicine of USC provides consultative care to pregnant women throughout the greater Los Angeles Area. Dr. Ramen Chmait is one of twelve double board-certified specialists who specialize in prenatal diagnosis, obstetrical complications, fetal anomalies and maternal medical diseases in pregnancy. The division is a leader in providing contemporary care to the pregnant patient and her unborn child.

Our Los Angeles team, led by Dr. Ramen Chmait and the Miami team, led by Dr. Ruben Quintero, have established uniform criteria and surgical techniques to target and treat patients involved in our fetal therapy clinical trials. Our teams have access to greater amount of data because we work together to resolve pressing clinical questions. Our physicians have extensive experience in fetal therapy and are pioneers in the development of new technologies and protocols for the management and treatment of a full spectrum of fetal conditions. We offer treatment options on the East and West Coasts of the country, with affiliate hospitals that boast excellent resources in neonatology and all pediatric subspecialties.
